The Abbey of the Genesee is a community of more than two dozen contemplative monks located near Piffard in the town of York, New York.
We were founded in 1999 by Dennis M. Thompson AIA, a registered Architect with over 30 years of professional experience. Dennis had previously been a project architect and manager of firms in Portland, OR and Philadelphia, PA. We purposely maintain a small firm of diverse and energetic staff members with the goal of providing friendly but professional service to our clients. We fully utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and use 3-D Building modeling in all phases of our work.
We believe that Architects are service providers first and foremost, and then artists. We are trained to provide buildings and spaces that are safe, environmentally friendly and cost efficient to both build and to maintain. At the same time, we are artists who blend materials and techniques with artistic expression. We express ourselves through an honest and appropriate use of materials and through a respect for construction techniques. Our company values the character and integrity of all building materials and appreciates the builders and artisans that bring our visions to life. Our process is bound by no particular style. Each project, each process, is as new and unique as each client and their needs. We bring our skills and knowledge to the table each day in anticipation of a new and unique challenge.
